Each student is required to attend a week work experience twice a year. During this time your employers will evaluate your skills, attitude and progress. You may also be visited on site by your tutor to ensure everything is going to plan and to do any assessment opportunities which may happen.
In addition to the school cafe students have opportunity to work at the Westpac Stadium and Trentham Racecourse.
Students will receive their initial barista training from Mojo in Wellington. This is done at the start of the year and students will attend their Introduction to Coffee, espresso production and background course. This initial day is done to give the students the basic skills and knowledge about espresso making and the use of multiple machines rather than us trying to teach many on one machine. The expectation from this course is that the student will then come back to school and practice on our machine and then be rostered on as the daily barista for the café.
The school is often asked to cater for events for the school and out-catering functions.
Students are encouraged to further their interests by participating in ISHOCC and competitions.
