Limited places are available for international students to study alongside Kiwi students in this innovative program. It is designed to allow Kiwi students to complete their first tertiary year of basic cookery training while remaining in the school environment. Students have access to the internationally recognised New Zealand Certificate in Basic Cookery (Level 3). This is a unique course in New Zealand as Heretaunga College is the only high school in the country with accreditation to offer a catering course at this level.
The course is a 42-week, full-time block programme that runs separately to our regular High School Programme. There is a mixture of practical and theoretical modules and students cater for the school cafe and for school functions providing students with regular practical experience.
This is a unique opportunity for international students with an interest in pursuing a career in the hospitality industry to pursue their interest at a secondary school in New Zealand, while improving their English language skills. On successful completion of the course students would be able to gain employment in kitchens around New Zealand if their VISA permits.
