Weather Update - Open for Instruction – Wednesday 22 April

Kia ora whanau

As WREMO and the Met Service have downgraded the warning to orange until 6pm today and suggest there is a minimal chance of upgrading to Red,  school will be open for instruction tomorrow.

It has been advised at this level we still need to be aware of slips and surface flooding.

Please also be aware that we have had water damage to our Maths and Social Science Wing and will have to close two classroom spaces, Morgan 1 and 8, for the week to dry the spaces.  This Wing will also be closed at break time as we have machines drying out the carpet.

Our Assistant Principal, Briony Hibberd, will communicate these changes to students via email.

As the forecast suggests rain until Friday, we will be opening up the Hall for break times.

This is a good opportunity to remind our young people to wear the correct winter uniform to school tomorrow.

Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to welcoming our students and staff back into school tomorrow.

Nga mihi

Kathryn Ataria

Acting Principal

We are a secondary school in Upper Hutt, New Zealand, located 30 km from the Wellington CBD - the capital city of New Zealand. We have over 800 students, both boys and girls, ranging in age from 12 to 18 years. Our school is situated in the picturesque Te Awa Kairangi (Hutt River) valley.

Our school vision realises the importance of lifelong learning through connectedness. Our mission statement confirms our commitment to whakawhanaungatanga; providing a supportive learning environment within which our young people can flourish.  As such, Heretaunga College focuses on the unique interests, passions, abilities, and hauora of each ākonga (student), and we make efforts to keep our environment caring and student-centred.

Out-of-zone Enrolments

To avoid overcrowding, or the likelihood of overcrowding, the Board of Heretaunga College has implemented an amended enrolment scheme that has been developed and approved by the Secretary for Education. The enrolment scheme, which includes a precise description of the home zone, may be viewed on our school website.

We acknowledge your desire to enrol your child/children at Heretaunga College.  However, due to the significant increase in our school roll; borne out of both a roll increase across the Upper Hutt Valley and our popularity as a preferred school, we are unable to accommodate students who reside beyond our current enrolment zone.

For the 2027 academic year, we will be running a Ballot for out-of-zone enrolments across Year 9 only.

Closing date for applications in Year 9 out-of-zone placements in 2027 is Monday 27 July 2026, at 4pm.

We will NOT be accepting any out-of-zone enrolments for Years 10 - 13 for 2027.
